Schneider unveils first-ever intermodal tank container for liquids, chemicals

Bulk IMIn a move that the carrier says will remove some supply chain inefficiencies, Schneider National Bulk Carriers this week has introduced the first liquid and chemical hauler that can be used for both truck and rail.

The 40-foot container can hold up to 5,800 gallons, and Schneider says it has almost 100 ready to be used — a number it says will grow to 200 by year’s end.

Schneider says the intermodal tanker is “state-of-the-art” and will benefit its chemical and liquid shipper customers. “The new container used in Schneider’s bulk intermodal service changes the game by enabling these products to be transported across both modes using the same container,” says Schneider’s announcement.

Two other key benefits include Schneider’s drayage drivers to become “true deliver specialists” and better the company’s service and the carrier having a smaller environmental footprint, as rail uses less fuel and emits less carbon than trucks.
