Q. Do you believe the trucking industry would be better or worse if brokers were eliminated completely?
Pride and Polish

Winner's tips

"It's not all about who has the most chrome and shiny stuff on the truck it's who gets the dirtiest getting the truck clean," says Suzanne Stempinski, half of the duo who tied for Best of Show-Combination in the Great American Trucking Show's Pride & Polish competition, held in Dallas in September.

Bob and Suzanne Stempinski's '99 Volvo 770 also won first place in the Specialty category for its scuba-diving mural, which Suzanne says ìreminds us of why we keep working so hard."

The Stempinskis offer the following tips for show-truck competitors:

  • Clean everything you can see.
  • Clean the things you can't see.
  • Clean what you don't think anyone else can see.
  • Clean it all again.
  • Look at award-winning trucks-and remember, you canít be too clean. You don't need the most chrome, but you can't win with dirt.
  • Don't be afraid to ask for tips or pointers. Truck-show participants learn from one another.
  • Be original. Judges like creativity.
  • Design your truck to please yourself.
  • Have a good attitude, and youíll make friends (who donít need to be dusted when they sit on your mantel).
  • Have fun, and be proud to represent the trucking industry every day.
