10 Cleaning Tips for Truck-Show Participants:
With more than a dozen victories under their belt, the Holsombacks have given us some inside show tips to pass on. Mid America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., is just around the corner (March 24-26), so read carefully.
Organize your cleaning supplies
Make sure you have plenty of clean towels, rags, sponges and paper shop towels, which we use as much as possible on dirt and grease.
We carry drop cords, lights and a ladder. If you don’t have room for these things, you can always borrow from your neighbors, even if they are your competitors.
Carry touch-up paint, especially for the frame.
Take any advice pertaining to cleaning. You never know when you might find a better shortcut method.
If more than one person is cleaning, make sure to double-check your partners’ work when you’re finished.
Do as much polishing as possible before you arrive at the show.
Remember to clean behind the fuel tanks, steps and wheels. Sometimes judges use mirrors to find these hidden areas.
Use your own ideas for finishing touches and presentation of your truck; this makes it more interesting for spectators.
Remember the three C’s: cleaning, chrome and cash. Also, if you’re going to Louisville, make sure you pack a raincoat, rubber boots and long johns.
