WHAT IS THE INSPECTION FAMILIARIZATION SEMINAR?

What is the Purpose?
The Inspection Familiarization seminar, officially titled "How to pass the CVSA Critical Item Inspection and Earn a CVSA Decal", is designed to improve the condition of the commercial vehicle population operating on the highways.  This program will provide the necessary tools to enable a participant to detect vehicle safety related defects/violations prior to the vehicle operating on the highway.

Properly implemented, the information gained at this seminar will help reduce expensive roadway downtime, costly delivery delays, adverse safety records, the number of critical out-of-service defects/violations discovered during roadside inspections, increase the number of vehicles receiving CVSA decals and reduce the likelihood of commercial vehicle involvement in highway crashes.

How long is the Seminar?
The seminar is designed to be delivered in eight hours and will start promptly at 8:00 am each schedule date.

Who should Attend?
This seminar is designed for anyone who has the responsibility for the condition of commercial vehicles.  This may include company owners, safety and risk managers, company drivers, owner-operators, and those responsible for maintenance.

What will the Attendee(s) take away from the seminar?
All attendees will receive a manual which contains the following material:
(1) Definitions of the different levels of inspections
(2) A laminated step-by-step inspection procedure schematic
(3) Written procedures which contain more detailed information
(4) Critical item inspection checklists
(5) A copy of the current CVSA Out of Service Criteria, and
(6) A copy of the CVSA, "Decal - Rules of the Road" information sheet.

Attendees will also obtain information about CVSA and
observe a "hands-on" simulated safety inspection.

Who is the instructor?
The instructor is Mr. Howie Steele, Training Director with the Minnesota State Patrol.  In addition, Mr. Steele has been active for many years on the CVSA Vehicle & Training Committee.
