Trucking sheds 1,900 jobs in March

After hiring about 20,000 new payroll employees in the past three months, trucking companies cut 1,900 jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis in March, according to the latest numbers released Friday, April 6, by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The last time payroll employment dropped month-to-month in for-hire trucking was August 2011. However, due to an upward revision of initial February numbers by 2,900, the agency's estimate for March is actually 1,000 jobs higher than the figures it originally reported for February.
