Sitton Motor Lines to close

By eTrucker Staff

Joplin, Mo.-based Sitton Motor Lines is closing, according to news reports. President and CEO Richard Sitton told the Springfield Business Journal he expects an orderly liquidation and made no other comments.

Officials at Sitton and the Missouri Motor Carriers Association declined to comment to eTrucker.

Nearly 50 employees in Joplin and up to 250 total employees could be laid off, including the drivers, according to news reports.

David L. Sitton and his two sons, Richard and Michael Sitton, started the irregular route common and contract carrier in 1979. Recent reports show an estimated annual revenue of nearly $100 million.

Sitton Motor Lines won the state association's fleet safety contest in 2008 for having the best record in 2006-2007.
