Boston hazmat route recommended

The Massachusetts Motor Transportation Association is strongly encouraging use of a Boston hazmat route city officials recommend until a federally required study and comment period is done.
The association, along with Massachusetts and Boston officials, is advocating hazmat trucks continue using Cross Street until a new hazmat routing study and public comment period is completed. However, because of a legal ruling, hazmat trucks also are able to travel on residential Commercial Street in Boston's North End as of July 1.
City and Massachusetts officials are working on a final Hazardous Cargo Route determination. On June 22, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration representatives met with city, state and local elected officials. The meeting's purpose was to show the agency what Boston is doing, in collaboration with its consultant team and the state, to bar hazmat trucks from the North End area.
