PrePass announces new product suite

By Aaron Huff

PrePass isn’t just weigh stations anymore. On Thursday, Nov. 5, PrePass announced a new suite of products.

PrePass is a system that enables motor carriers to electronically comply with weight, safety and credential requirements in more than 280 locations in 29 states. PrePass Plus enables motor carriers to pay their E-ZPass tolls electronically using the same transponder. By avoiding weigh station and toll booth stops and idling in queues, trucks can save time and reduce fuel consumption.

The new suite of PrePass services includes three value-adding services:

  • Ground Traffic Control -- an electronic inspection, tracking and management system for fleet operations. The Web-based data management application is powered by Zonar and is designed to enable carriers to ensure pre- and post-trip inspection compliance. The new product also offers GPS asset tracking and real-time access to a vehicle's JBus for vehicle and driver performance data through wireless transmission.

The vehicle inspection service, GPS tracking and JBus are offered separately or bundled together with one monthly subscription fee. The vehicle inspection system uses a Zonar handheld reader. PrePass offers two pricing plans for the hardware. Customers can purchase the handheld readers either upfront or through a monthly lease and maintenance plan, the company says.

  • eLogs -- a log scanning and auditing service available to help carriers ensure safety and provide comprehensive and efficient log auditing solutions. Fleets send their paper or scanned images of driver logs to PrePass. The company provides remote scanning and auditing services and a Web-based management application for fleets.

  • Gates -- a fully-integrated gate control access and management system that lets drivers enter and exit terminals using their PrePass transponder and without the unnecessary delay, idling and emissions resulting from manual systems.

"Taken together, the PrePass service suite addresses motor carrier safety and efficiency at 12 critical points in a trucker’s day, including before the trip, on the road, and after the trip," says Richard P. Landis, president and chief executive officer of HELP Inc., the public-private partnership that offers the weigh station bypass service. "We’re confident these new services will improve the productivity of both the states and the industry."
