150,000th Iteris sensor hits the road

By CCJ Staff

Iteris Inc., a provider in the traffic management market that focuses on the application and development of advanced technologies, announced Thursday, Nov. 5, that the company has shipped more than 150,000 machine-vision sensors to public- and private-sector clients worldwide. Iteris says its sensors have been deployed throughout the United States, Asia, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East.

The company uses its video-analytics technology -- consisting of sophisticated algorithms, software and special-purpose hardware -- to create products that collect, process and analyze real-time video images to help reduce traffic congestion and enhance driver safety. Iteris’ image-processing technology is used in the company’s Vantage product line to detect vehicle presence, count, speed, occupancy and other traffic data used in traffic management systems. It also is used in Iteris’ AutoVue Lane Departure Warning system, which is designed to recognize the difference between the road and lane markings, and warn motorists if they inadvertently are drifting out of their lane.

“Iteris is a pioneer in the industry, utilizing machine-vision technology to help improve the mobility and safety of our surface transportation systems," says Abbas Mohaddes, president and chief executive officer of Iteris, based in Santa Ana, Calif. “With this milestone, Iteris has demonstrated our leadership in delivering proven leading-edge technologies that improve the quality of life on a global scale. We are extremely pleased with the adoption of our technologies and anticipate that they will directly contribute to the ongoing advancement of traffic management systems and vehicle safety worldwide.”
