Florida targets financial firm

By Jill Dunn

The Florida Attorney General is conducting a civil investigation of Global Funding, LLC, a group of financing services truckers have complained about.

The AG has said violations could exist of the state’s code on deceptive and unfair trade practices. The company collects advance fees from business customers who apply to secure lease agreement funding to acquire business equipment.

Complaints allege that when funding is not provided, fees are forfeited.

Global Funding’s address is 8200 Bryan Dairy Road, Largo, with an alternate business address at 701 Hercules Ave. North, Clearwater. Ownership of the company is listed as JMM Financial Inc., at 8200 Bryan Dairy Road, Largo,

The AG is also investigating the holding company, Global Capitol Development, also listed at the Bryan Dairy Road address. That company is believed to have affiliation and potential liability associated with unlawful conduct identified with Global Funding, LLC.

The office is investigating the holding company JMM Financial on the same charges.

The Better Business Bureau lists Global Funding, 14450 46th St. N., Clearwater, also doing business as JMM Financial. This company offers commercial business finance and leasing, and the BBB said it has information indicating it is out of business.

BBB processed 49 complaints about this company, whose principal is Jeffrey M. Maricle, managing member.

However, the Florida Secretary of State lists Global Funding as having active status as a corporation.
