Bill would give tax credit for safety devices
By Avery Vise
U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., and several co-sponsors have introduced legislation that would provide a tax credit to buyers of commercial motor vehicles equipped with certain advanced safety devices.
The devices listed in H.R. 3820 include systems that provide collision warnings, lane departure warnings, vehicle stability and brake stroke monitoring. The bill was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over taxes.
The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association praised the bill. "We believe that tax credits will accelerate the availability of important safety-enhancing technologies to heavy vehicle operators and fleets," said Ann Wilson, MEMA's vice president of government affairs. |
