California Trucking Association honors Con-way Freight for safety
By eTrucker Staff
Con-way Freight recently won several California Trucking Association's Fleet Safety Awards. The company took the evening's top honor — the Fleet Safety Award/Board of Directors Grand Trophy — in addition to first place in LTL/General Commodities – Line Haul, second place in LTL/General Commodities – Local/Short Haul and a Certificate of Recognition from the California State Assembly.
Fleet safety is an increasingly important issue in California, home to three of the nation's top 10 most congested regions: the Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego areas. Con-way Freight is a subsidiary of San Mateo, Calif.-based Con-way Inc.
"I want to congratulate and thank all of our California drivers for an exemplary performance,” says John G. Labrie, president of Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Con-way Freight. "Safety is one of the core values of our company, and their extraordinary commitment to it is the reason we're being recognized by the California Trucking Association.”
An independent panel of judges selects winners based on categories including safe driving miles, training, driver supervision and preventive maintenance. "These awards give us an opportunity to spotlight companies that reduce accidents in California by running top-notch safety programs,” says Mike Campbell, executive vice president and chief executive officer of the California Trucking Association.
The Fleet Safety Awards program started in 1983 for California Trucking Association members. Con-way previously won the Fleet Safety Award/Board of Directors Grand Trophy in 1994. |
