Freight index fell again in July

The Transportation Services Index for freight fell 0.8 percent in July, turning down for the second consecutive month, the U.S. Department of Transportation reported.
The freight index increased from 111.6 percent in July 2005 to 111.7 percent in July 2006, the fifth consecutive July-to-July increase but the smallest year-to-year increase since 2001.
For the first seven months of 2006, the freight index increased 0.7 percent, the third consecutive increase in that period but the smallest increase since 2003.
The freight TSI measures month-to-month changes in output of for-hire trucking, railroads, inland waterways, pipelines and air freight.
