All Iowa rest areas to get free wi-fi by July
By Jill Dunn

Iowa will expand free wireless Internet access to all 40 of its rest areas by July 1.

The state’s Transportation Department began the service at six rest areas in June and will provide access at 20 more by March.15, the department announced.

The state offers 30 minutes of free access to the Internet through the driver’s wireless-enabled personal laptop/notebook or handheld computer/PDA.

From a homepage specific to each rest area, motorists can access local information including highway conditions, fuel options, attractions and events. Users can leave the homepage to access other websites as well.

Michigan and Texas also are in the process of offering free wi-fi at every state rest area.
