Average diesel price drops again
By Sean Kelley
The national average retail price for a gallon of diesel fell three cents to $1.957 for the first week in 2005.
The decline is the eighth such decrease in the past 10 weeks. Diesel prices set a record high at $2.212 on Oct. 25, before retreating below $2. Analysts say falling oil prices, rising U.S. stockpiles of fuel and a mild North American winter have influenced the price downward.
Prices fell in every region but the Central Atlantic, which saw a modest increase of 0.2 cents a gallon to $2.163. Prices fell the most -- 4.1 cents -- along the Gulf Coast, where truckers are filling up for around $1.88 a gallon. They are paying the most in New England at $2.18 a gallon.
