Swift Transportation launches Driver Mentor Program

Published June, 08 2004

Swift Transportation launched its new Driver Mentor Program this spring to advance the position of current driver trainers and to outline more opportunity for growth for the rest of Swift’s driver fleet.

The new Driver Mentor Program offers three levels to allow for growth and increased profitability. At Level One, Driver Mentors receive one cent per mile for every mile their finished students drive during their students’ first year as solos or team drivers. In addition, Driver Mentors also accrue the added miles with the students onboard. Level Two Driver Mentors earn 1 cent per mile from their finished students’ first full years, another 1 cent per mile for every mile driven with the students on the truck , and the added miles driven with the students. Level Three (also referred to as Senior) Driver Mentors are awarded 1cent per mile from finished students’ first full years, receive the extra miles, and earn 2 cents for all miles run with the students on the truck.

For all levels of the program, Driver Mentors are paid up to 12,000 miles for the solo driver and team split for team drivers. Mentors earn approx 35 percent more wages than the regular fleet.

To qualify to become a Swift Driver Mentor, a driver must have 12 months recent verifiable tractor-trailer experience and have worked for Swift for a minimum of 30 days.
